Grade 10 Overview

The Grade 10 year at Abbotts College offers the opportunity to choose from a wide range of subjects in order to give you the best opportunity to experience different academic disciplines and to help you decide what to do when you leave school.

Even if you have not managed to do well in subjects such as Mathematics and Physical Sciences, we will give you the opportunity to start over, consolidate the basics and renew your confidence.

In Grade 10 we will help you develop excellent study methods, sound examination techniques and ensure your essay writing and presentation skills are in place so you can express your thoughts and knowledge more effectively.

During this year, the emphasis is not only on improving your studies but also on having fun. The teachers will introduce topics that are relevant and current and choose set work books that are exciting and geared to the modern lifestyle.

Four Parent-Teacher meetings are held during the year – one each term. These give parents and/or guardians the opportunity to discuss their child’s individual results with the various subject teachers in focused one-on-one discussions.

The students attend an adventure camp which focusses on teamwork, leadership and personal growth. Fun is an integral part of the activities. These camps are run by professional companies to ensure that the students get as much out of them as possible.

The year ends with an official Awards Function which celebrates the hard work and achievements of the students.

Outings, field trips and excursions form an integral part of the Grade 10 curriculum.
