Private High School

Abbotts College Pretoria, one of the best high schools in Pretoria, is truly a home away from home. Our students flourish in the comfortable, caring environment that is created by staff and fellow students. We celebrate our students’ uniqueness and embrace our diversity.

Besides teaching the required curriculum, our dedicated educators create the space for our students to develop and enhance their 21st Century Skills, namely critical and ethical thinking, effective communication, social skills, self-management and research abilities. Our students also learn to be global citizens, appreciative of our individuality and diversity, as well as being respectful of all. 

Our Grade 8s and 9s will build their 21st Century Skills in EdTech, learning to code and work within programmes. Robotics has also been introduced, and our Grade 8s get to create their own superheroes as a process of self-discovery. Our Grade 9s create their own cities using 3D printers (working in groups) and discovering the myriad of careers found within cities - in preparation for their subject choices in the latter part of the year.

In the FET Phase, our students hone their knowledge and skills in their selected subjects, preparing them for tertiary education and the world of work, not only academically but emotionally. We focus on the academic success of our students, offering supervised homework sessions, with additional remedial assistance available where needed. Our dedicated teachers assist their students in reaching their full potential.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Our extra-mural programme is designed to bring the classroom to life. Field trips are arranged regularly and students are offered the opportunity to experience national or international tours. 


Traditional student activities are also catered for. Every year we have inter-campus sports days, cultural evenings, a matric dance, awards evenings and the Grade 12 Graduation.

Meet the Principal 

I wanted to be teacher since finishing nursery school. I loved nursery school so much that I figured the only way to get back was by being a teacher.


When my eldest child started Grade 1, I decided that I really did want to be a teacher after all. I resumed my studies and started teaching at an inner-city school, where I taught Grade 5s, 6s and 7s in one class, teaching all subjects, bar English. I loved the experience so much and I knew that teaching was in my blood. I made the move to high school education after three years of teaching and never looked back.


I hold a Master’s Degree in Education: Educational Management, a Bachelor of Arts Honour’s Degree: English in Education, a Higher Diploma in Education and a Diploma in Education.

What I love most about working at Abbotts is working with our unique students, who embrace their individuality and who get to “just be” and focus on their studies, rather than having to conform to (at times) dated “norms”. Every morning I smile as I drive into the Abbotts staff parking lot and look forward to another great day.



I am a true water baby, if there is a body of water, I want to dive into it. Every winter, I “force” one of my children, or my eldest grandchild to have a “last days of summer swim” with me and vow that next winter I’m buying a heat pump.
