Our Focus is

Academics

Abbotts College focuses on the individual learning abilities of each student. Academic improvement forms the core of our focus, ensuring that students achieve continued success. We nurture and encourage each student’s individuality; we embrace diversity, self-expression, and freedom of choice. Treating our students as young adults builds character, creates accountability and responsibility.

We value input and collaborative learning through discussion with our students

We value young minds that can think for themselves

Our classrooms are places of academic growth and improvement

Academic Improvement

All of our students see an improvement in their marks after joining Abbotts!

The Abbotts method is a comprehensive, highly structured approach to academic development, with supporting structured programmes to build life skills. For students who have not managed to do well in their marks, we give them the opportunity to start over, consolidate the basics and renew their confidence.

We nurture our students to develop excellent study methods, sound examination techniques so that they can express their thoughts and knowledge more effectively. We offer a range of subjects in the FET phase and students are able to choose the subjects that best suit their abilities. The impact of this method is seen through academic improvement achieved by our students.

Subject Improvement

We believe in second chances, the aim of our part-time enrolments is to provide an opportunity to grade 12 students who wish to upgrade their subjects based on the results they achieved on their matric results. This opportunity provides the students the chance to increase their marks and that enables them to meet their tertiary Admission Point Score (APS) in order to be accepted to study in the field of their dreams.

Instead of saying "I did not meet the acceptance requirements” rather say: "I have not met the entrance requirements YET!” Hundreds of students have joined Abbotts Colleges in the past 45 years to upgrade their matric results. Under certain conditions we will allow students to take Mathematics if they had Mathematical Literacy previously. Please discuss it with us personally.

Requirements to Upgrade

You need to have written your matric within the last 3 years

We accept students who have either the IEB Matric results or NSC Matric Results

Students can re-register for up to six subjects

Students only come to school for the chosen subjects they are upgrading

Students can register for a maximum of two new subjects if they wrote matric with the wrong subject combination
